In our society, every individual wants to receive respect from fellow beings. In this respect, democratic form of government stands much superior to any other form of government in promoting dignity and freedom of the individual.

Democracy is the most suited and accepted form of governance in the world because it results in enacting the will of the people who ultimately are the governed and in whom the real authority lies. It results in the formation of a legitimate government that represents a nation's interest as a whole and a responsive one that pays heed to the timely needs of the people and promotes transparency by inviting people's opinion.

The democracy facilitates equality, active participation of people and respect to the opinions of the people. In democracy the decisions are taken after careful examination of the opinions and deliberations on different issues which would affect the interests of the governed.

Democracy allows the people to raise their voice against the system or procedure as well. People having grievances or functioning of democracy shows that people are aware of how the government should work or how can it be made better. Thus democracy invites criticism and strives for betterment.

 Whenever possible and necessary, citizens should be able to participate in decision making, that affects them all. Therefore, the most basic outcome of democracy should be that it produces a government that is accountable to the citizens, and responsive to the needs and expectations of the citizens.
