Kabir Puraskar scheme was instituted to promote communal, caste and ethnic harmony by recognising acts of physical/moral courage and humanity exhibited by a member or members of one a community, caste or ethnic group in saving the lives and properties of the member(s) of another community, caste or ethnic group. The award may be given by the Central Government and presented to the recipients by the Prime Minister.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is considered to be the highest recognition in the world of sports in India. The phrase "Khel Ratna" means "sports prodigy." The award is christened after the name of the late prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. It was initiated in the year 1991 and aims to honour outstanding athletes in various sports categories. 

The Nandi Awards is the highest award ceremony for excellence in Telugu cinema, Telugu Theatre, Telugu Television, and Lifetime achievements in Indian cinema, presented annually by Government's of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. "Nandi" means "bull", the awards being named after the big granite bull at Lepakshi, a cultural and historical symbol of Telugus. Nandi Awards are presented in four categories viz. The Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s premier prize, and highest honour, celebrate the greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia. It was established in 1957 in the memory of Philippines’ 3rd President Ramon Magsaysay who had died in an air disaster in March 1957. It is awarded annually to individuals or organizations from Asia region for their altruistic and philanthropic service.

To commemorate her love for Art, Culture & Education, the Dayawati Modi Foundation instituted this award in her memory in 1994. The Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education is presented annually on the 17th of November, her birth anniversary, to an eminent person credited with outstanding contributions in these fields. Amitabh Bachchan, acclaimed actor and Son of well-known poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was presented the Dayawati Modi Award in 2002 for his contribution to the field of Art, Culture and Education.

12th April 1961 was the date of the first human spaceflight, carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen. This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity. The UN General Assembly has thus, declared 12th April as the International Day of Human Space Flight to celebrate each year at the international level the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of States and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes

It is a very prestigious Award and carries an amount of 10 million rupees, a citation and a Plaque. The Award is selected by a Jury under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister. It is an annual award given to individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions towards social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods. First President of Tanzania, Julius Nyerere was the first recipient of the International Gandhi Peace Prize.

The National Consumer Rights Day is an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity within the national consumer movement and is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers.It is observed every year in India on 24th December. On this day the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of the President. These events promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

Morarji Desai, the Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979 was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1991. Gulzari Lal Nanda, ex-Prime Minister of India, was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1997. V.V. Giri, the noted freedom fighter and ex-President of India was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1975. Lal Bahadur Shastri, the ex-Prime Minister of India was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1966.

Ashoka Chakra is the highest peacetime gallantry awards of India. This is accorded for showing extreme courage, valour or self sacrifice away from battlefield. This is not necessarily for military person but civilian can also be awarded this.

To honour the Father of Indian Cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, the National Film Awards named the most prestigious and coveted award of Indian Cinema after him. He is the man who made the first Indian Feature film Raja Harishchandra in 1913. Popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, he then went on to make 95 films and 26 short films in a span of 19 years. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced in 1969 by the government to recognise the contribution of film personalities towards the development of Indian Cinema. The UNESCO Kalinga Prize for the Popularization of Science is an international award to reward exceptional contributions made by individuals in communicating science to society and promoting the popularization of science. It is awarded to persons who have had a distinguished career as writer, editor, lecturer, radio, television, or web programme director, or film producer in helping interpret science, research and technology to the public.

Dhyan Chand Award is bestowed upon sportspersons for lifetime contribution to sports development. Arguably the finest opportunistic striker in his time, Shabbir Ali was a prolific goal scorer both at the national and international level. He rose to fame at a very early age when he captained India to win the Asian Youth championships in Bangkok jointly with Iran in 1974, a performance which even earned praise from the then honourable Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi.

On 26 April 2006, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to launch a Data Protection Day, to be celebrated each year on 28 January. This date corresponds to the anniversary of the opening for signature of the Council of Europe's Convention 108 for the Protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data which has been for over 30 years a cornerstone of data protection, in Europe and beyond. Data Protection Day is now celebrated globally and is called the "Privacy Day" outside Europe.

Born in 1890, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan was known as Badshah Khan and “Sarhadi Gandhi” and Frontier Gandhi. He was a Pashtun leader and ardent follower of Mahtma Gandhi and was known for his non-violent opposition to British Rule. He was nominated for Nobel Peace prize in 1985. In 1987 he became the first foreigner to win the Bharat Ratna.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly. Since then the General Assembly proclaimed 3 December as the International Day of Disabled Persons. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
