Explanation
A thin protective layer of FeO.Fe2O3 formed at the surface of iron which prevents further action of HNO3.
Fe, Al, Cr all are rendered passive on treatment with conc. HNO3
By removing NH3, forward reaction will be favoured and heat is evolved.
N2O5 is a solid (colourless) compound
Nitrogen
Laughing gas (N2O) is prepared by heating NH4Cl and NaNO3 as NH4NO3 is liable to explode on direct heating.
In the reaction 3CuO + 2NH3 → 3Cu + 3H2O + N2
NH3 acts as a reducing agent and reduces CuO to Cu. It itself is oxidized to N2.
CO is neutral oxide .
V2O5 is an acidic oxide formed by V in + 5 (higher) oxidation state
O3 layer prevents the entry of UV radiations from reaching the surface of earth
O3 acts both an oxidant and a reductant
Pt gauze is used as a catalyst in Ostwald’s process for manufacture of HNO3.
