Explanation
Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) = Sulphide one. Concentrated by froth flotation.
H2SO4 forms hydrate with heater.
Fe(OH)3 removes Arsenic impurity in contact process (H2SO4 preparing method ) Fe(OH)3 is a positive solution, it removes arsenic impurity which is negative solution.
Test for oxygen – When a glowing spliniter comes in contact with oxygen, it rrlights, because fuels burn faster in presence of oxygen.
Chalcogens (Ore forming) –– In group 16 –– Oxygen, sulphur, selenium Polonium –– radioactive ––forms less number of compounds.
Due to large size sulphur do not form pπ – pπ bpmd. S = S bond is weaker because of small size of sulphur.
Sulphur shows maximum catenation in the group.
V2O5 used as a catalyst in contact process. It is not easily poisoned.
SO2 →acts as reducing , oxidising agent, bleaching agent. It does not act as dehydrating agent.
Monotropy – If an allotropic form slowly changes to a stable form. Example – O3 → O2
Oxygen is most abundant element in earth crust.
Oleum fuming H2SO4, persulphuric Acid H2S2O7.
RCOO– is not a pseudohalide. Pseudohalide are combination of more than one electronegative atoms which have one negative charge example – CN–.
Electron affinity energy liberated when one electron is added to an isolated gaseous atom. As size increases, lesser energy is liberated, hence electron affinity decreases.Electron affinity is highest for Cl.
Order of electron affinity Cl > F > Br > I
Flourine due to smaller size has low electron affinity in comparision to chlorine because incoming electron experience greater repulsion otherwise electron affinity decreases on moving down a group.
Order of bond dissociation energy.
HF > HCl > HBr > HI
(m kJ/mol) 566 431 366 299
Bond disociation energy ∝ heat of formation order of formation of halogen acid HF > HCl > HBr > HI
