Explanation
Effective atomic number (EAN) represents the total number of electrons surrounding the nucleus of a metal atom in a metal complex. It is composed of the metal atom’s electrons and the bonding electrons from the surrounding electron-donating atoms and molecules.
Thus , For [K4 Fe (CN)6] , the EAN of Fe2+ ion is given as 26 – 2 + 12 = 36.Hence the complex, [K4Fe (CN)6] obey EAN rule as its EAN is equal to number of electrons in the nearest inert gas, (i.e Krypton , Kr)
IUPAC name of K3Fe(CN)6 is potassium hexacyano ferrate(III).
Formula of dibromidobis (ethylene diamine) chromium(III) bromide is [Cr(en)2Br2]Br.
Linkage isomers are two or more coordination compounds in which the donor atom of at least one of the ligands is different (i.e., the connectivity between atoms is different). This type of isomerism can only exist when the compound contains a ligand that can bond to the metal atom in two (or more) different ways.
The nitrite ion is known to exhibit Linkage isomerism. When donation is from nitrogen to a metal center, the complex is known as a nitro- complex (the nitro complex is [Co(NH3)5(NO2)]2+). When donation is from one oxygen to a metal center, the complex is known as a nitrito- complex (the nitrito complex is [Co(NH3)5(ONO)]2+).
The IUPAC name of [Co(NH3)5 ONO]2+ ion is pentaamminenitri to cobalt (III) ion
