Explanation
An aqueous solution of calcium chloride upon electrolysis give calcium hydroxide because calcium metal reacts with water to produce calcium hydroxide.
Ca2+ + 2H2O → Ca(OH)2 + H2 ↑
Calcium hydroxide
If the hydration energy is greater than lattice energy , then the compound is more soluble in water. Down the group carbonates become less stable , and size of the metal ion increases. Hence the solubililties of carbonates decrease down the group due to decrease in hydration energy of cations.
As alkaline earth metals are divalent cations having a small radius, the charge density is high so attraction is more. Thus large energy is released. Hence compare to beryllium fluoride, magnesium fluoride has high lattice energy. More ever the fluorides of alkaline earth metals except beryllium fluoride are insoluble in water.
Only nitrates of heavy metals and lithium decompose on heating to produce NO2
