Federalism first of all is the federal principle or system of government. So government is related to slavery because there was people in the government who were pro-slavery and there were people who were anti-slavery. Also, some people did not like how the government was operating in general.

I would answer that is was mostly sectionalism and division between the states. Another thing that would have sparked the American Civil war would have been slavey. The south wanted slavery to be a thing in the south, and they wanted slavery to expand to the west, even though only 4.8 southerners actually owned slaves, while 95.2 percent didn't. The north hated slavery, and wanted to get rid of it, yet only 2 percent of northerners were abolitionists.

I would disagree, A very small percent of people in the south owned slaves and a very small percent in the north was abolitionists. This just proves that the north and the south have had bad blood from more than just slavery. Some of the them are political reasons such as taxes and tariffs. The war between the South and the North had almost no abolitionists. Also there were almost no slave owners in the south.

The south wanted slavery and the North wanted freedom, subsequently leading to the tensions leading to the war. People with power can really have strong views. John Calhoun was the person who was for slavery and wanted to keep/expand slavery in the US. Henry Clay was the person who was favoring the Northern side and wanted to end slavery.

Westward expansion lead to the creation of more states which lead to more political views & perspectives. These new views were spread and created tensions between the states. These tensions lead to the secession of the South. Also the land itself was hard to divide up equally into states, and that created more tensions.

All three of the people listed in question 3 could have prevented the civil war by simply coming to an agreement and using the missouri compromise line.Calhoun specifically could have simply kept his mouth shut and stopped trying to expand slavery, Clay could have not been trying to end slavery, and Lincoln could have said he wasn't for or against slavery.

Many things caused the American civil war including the slavery laws, the tension between the states, the missouri compromise, Clay & Calhoun, and eventually the election 1860, which was the straw that broke the camel's back because the South scared of the loss of slavery and the feeling of lack of power.
