Explanation
The primary environmental concern related to nuclear power is the creation of radioactive wastes such as uranium mill tailings, spent (used) reactor fuel, and other radioactive wastes. These materials can remain radioactive and dangerous to human health for thousands of years. Radioactive wastes are subject to special regulations that govern their handling, transportation, storage, and disposal to protect human health and the environment.
Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a process that can produce electricity by using the temperature difference between deep cold ocean water and warm tropical surface waters. OTEC plants pump large quantities of deep cold seawater and surface seawater to run a power cycle and produce electricity.
Potential energy content of wind blowing at high altitudes is that amount of energy which is present in still wind. The production of wind energy requires high wind speed with which the turbine can be rotated efficiently.
Higher speed winds are easily captured and the entire process remains inexpensive also. In case potential energy content of the wind is used for rotating the turbine the necessary outcome is not generated.
Wind speeds in the range of 6.7 to 7.4m/s or above are required to economically generate power and this is possible only when the kinetic energy of the wind is used which is then converted to mechanical energy and wind power is generated
Solar energy is the energy that is in sunlight. It has been used for thousands of years in many different ways by people all over the world. As well as its traditional human uses in heating, cooking, and drying, it is used today to make electricity where other power supplies are absent, such as in remote places and in space. It is becoming cheaper to make electricity from solar energy and in many situations it is now competitive with energy from coal or oil. A solar cooker can be used for cooking food.
Solar power plants convert sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics converts light into electric current using the photoelectric effect. Thus there is no pollution associated with harnessing solar energy.
Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, but commonly including varying amounts of other higher alkanes, and sometimes a small percentage of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulphide, or helium. It is formed when layers of decomposing plant and animal matter are exposed to intense heat and pressure under the surface of the Earth over millions of years. The energy that the plants originally obtained from the sun is stored in the form of chemical bonds in the gas.
Natural gas is a fossil fuel used as a source of energy for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. It is also used as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals. It is a non-renewable resource.
Fossil fuels are fuels formed by natural processes such as anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms, containing energy originating in ancient photosynthesis. Although fossil fuels are continually being formed via natural processes, they are generally considered to be non-renewable resources because they take millions of years to form and the known viable reserves are being depleted much faster than new ones are being made
Technically speaking, the sun is, in fact, not a source of inexhaustible energy, since every star eventually burns out. However, the sun's internal fuel supply will keep it burning for at least six billion years, enough to be considered inexhaustible for all practical purposes. The sun's nuclear furnace provides as much as 174 petawatts of solar energy to the planet, approximately 70 percent of which is absorbed by the surface.
